I always feel a kind of electricity when I get to share creativity with others. It's the kind of thing that sparks ideas, offers new perspectives, and connects us to the people around us. For me, Community Art is the work I do that this experience with others. Wether I'm running a shadow puppet workshop or facilitating a group project with talented artist, the key is recognizing that everyone can be creative and deserves the opportunity to be involved.
Community Art Program
I am currently working with the City of Surrey to develop a neighbourhood-level art program that supports youth to create their own art projects and events. Click here to read more, including a report I prepared that demonstrates the need and method of delivery for this program.
inFlux Event Series
One of my greatest pleasures working with the Surrey Art Gallery was programming their inFlux event series. These are kind of like art parties in the gallery that bring together live performance and interactive art making, featuring dozens of amazing local artists.
I am also a founding member of the South of the Fraser Inter Arts Collective, which presents community events in Surrey, BC, sparking conversation across culture and artistic platforms. These events include: poetry readings, film nights, symposiums, and coming this summer, a month-long series of events at PopUp Newton.
